Job Description

Sonepar Canada is seeking a Sustainable Development Manager to join our fast-growing and evolving organization. The manager will be responsible for managing, directing, implementing, measuring, and monitoring the company's sustainable development program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration and harmonization plans for sustainability across key businesses and functions.
  • Liaise with senior management, regional business leaders, and other internal stakeholders to prioritize sustainability issues and emerging topics.
  • Collaborate with multiple external stakeholders and represent the company to key third-party external organizations, government agencies, and industry organizations.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain sustainability policies.
  • Manage and monitor all sustainable development projects.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on sustainability goals and performance metrics.
  • Support data collection on all sustainability parameters, including carbon, energy, waste, etc.
  • Ensure all sustainability submissions for regulations, customers, and certifications are met.
  • Research potential government programs that incentivize the industry to meet environmental goals.
  • Monitor global, federal, and provincial environmental regulations and develop company policies, training, and communications to ensure compliance.
  • Compare, synthesize, and communicate external and internal trends and ideas; support the identification of new sustainability issues and identify collaboration and leadership opportunities.
  • Provide education and training on sustainability to employees and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate, support, motivate, and recognize regional sustainability efforts.
  • Present progress, as well as issues and solutions, to stakeholders, including senior management and executives.
  • Other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of required experience in sustainability, particularly in leading the sustainability function in a complex organization.
  • 3-5+ years of management experience is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in environmental sciences, Master's in Science (M.Sc), Bachelor's in Engineering (B.Eng.), or related field.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge required.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing, leading, and implementing corporate sustainability programs.
  • Experience in the distribution industry is a plus.
  • Experience liaising with government agencies and other external parties related to sustainability.
  • Ability to represent the company's sustainability efforts internally and externally, recommend strategic opportunities, and offer innovative solutions.
  • Travel required.
