Job Description

Valard Construction LP is seeking an experienced Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain their fleet of heavy-duty equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on internal combustion engines and related components, both stationary and mobile
  • Certified in both off-road and on-road vehicle maintenance
  • Conduct maintenance and repair work on gas and diesel engines, as well as compressors
  • Service and maintain tracked equipment, such as crawler tractors
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair ground-engaging equipment and related components
  • Maintain and repair earth-moving machinery and equipment
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs of tractors
  • Perform maintenance and repair on both on-highway and off-highway motor vehicles, such as trucks
  • Maintain and repair towed vehicles for both on-highway and off-highway use, including trailers
  • Interpret and follow work orders and technical manuals to complete tasks accurately
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, lubricated, and maintained to optimal standards
  • Diagnose equipment faults or malfunctions accurately and efficiently
  • Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts, components, or systems as required
  • Test and repair equipment to confirm proper performance, ensuring all work aligns with manufacturers' specifications and regulatory standards
  • Write detailed and accurate service and maintenance reports
  • Mentor and train Heavy Duty Mechanic apprentices as required
  • Maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic, with expertise in diagnostics of engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
  • Proficiency in conducting CVIP inspections
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in utility equipment (e.g., digger, crane, backhoe)
  • Class 1 or 3 driver's license is considered an asset
